Not every loss begins with an obvious scam. Sometimes, it begins with advice you trusted. I feel like a lot has happened to me these past few months that made me take a step backwards. You know, when life hits you differently in a way that you’ve got to automatically learn and adapt… then everything changes. I mean your life can never be the same especially if that lesson comes with a traumatic experience.
You can either adapt positively or negatively to whatever challenges you’ve encountered in this journey of life.
The longer you live, the more you get to see and experience life in different dimensions. Trust me, with the way our economy is deteriorating same does the citizens are. When people come out to speak about bad governance, it isn’t only about the people sitting on political platforms. It’s also about you and I enabling the so called bad behaviors all in the name of fending for ourselves.
To be honest, this is really eating deep into our systems. Nobody is left out on the consequences that comes with this low level of making money by all means, not even friends or family. Now everyone is looking for the slightest opportunity to make money off every single individual that comes their way. Whether you have or not something must come out. Whether the billing is necessary or not, something must be dropped on the table either by hook or crook.
Omo, I don tire cause this is getting really bad. We haven’t recovered from bad governance, now we want to enter another season of bad professionals. Come on, can we be that insensitive to humanity. For example, we seek professional help, especially from a lawyer who we believe would be honest with us because we share the same home town. we expected clarity, and guidance that would help us make informed decisions. We trust that the person we consult will explain the facts, risks, and consequences before we take action.
But what happens when the advice we receive is misleading or not entirely honest?
The consequences can go beyond money. They can cost us time, opportunities, peace of mind, and the confidence we placed in someone we believed would guide us rightly.
When the truth is incomplete
There is a difference between an honest mistake and failing to communicate important information that could influence a client's decision just because you want to keep making money off the person.
Yes, no professional is perfect, but honesty and accountability should never be optional. I don’t know the body in charge of complaint like this cause is becoming a plague in our society and needs to be stopped or managed. When advice leaves out crucial facts or creates a false impression, a client may make decisions they would never have made if they had known the full truth.
Sometimes, that is what makes a person feel indirectly scammed not simply the financial loss, but the feeling that their trust was used against them. But guess what, this is now a trend for professionals in different fields. Everyone is aggressively filling up their pockets by hook or crook.
Professional titles are not a substitute for integrity
A title may represent knowledge and experience, but it does not automatically guarantee honesty.
Clients deserve clear explanations, truthful communication, and the freedom to seek a second opinion. Professionals, in turn, should be willing to acknowledge mistakes and take responsibility when their advice falls short.
Seeking professional help is not foolishness. Trusting someone with expertise is reasonable. The important lesson is to combine trust with discernment.
Ask questions. Seek clarification. Understand the risks before making important decisions.
My takeaway
Professionalism is not measured by knowledge alone, but also by integrity and accountability.
When someone seeks your guidance, they are placing their trust in your hands. That trust deserves respect.
Sometimes, the greatest loss is not what we paid, but what we lost by relying on information that was not completely honest.
May we learn to protect our interests, ask better questions, and remember that accountability begins with honesty Just like we expect from our leaders.
